The DNA Sequence Database And Blast Builder (DNA DABBLER) program is Microsoft Access based application suitable for managing DNA sequence data for small to medium sized sequencing operations. DNA DABBLER is suitable for storing data for up to a few hundred thousand sequences, while the MyGCAT package is best for larger sequence databases. DNA DABBLER is interfaced via a set of graphical user interfaces making it suitable for novices in bioinformatics. It serves as a great transition for people learning to do standalone BLAST, and provides a an interface for managing data associated with sequencing projects.

The startup form provides links to all of the forms and tools available.

All data associated with the project may be track by the project form. This includes all sequence reads associated with the project, publications results from the project, contact information and plates.

The data associated with each plate.

The most advanced option in the DNA DABBLER program is the Big Dawg Blast program which provides a Graphical User Interface to NCBI-BLAST. The user can select the database that they are interested in BLASTing against, the BLAST Program that they are interested in using, as well as basic BLAST options. More advanced BLAST options can be set by clicking on the Advanced Options tab. The BLAST job may be run on the local machine, or the BLAST command may be copied and pasted to BLAST on a different computer.

All of the advanced options available from the BLAST program are available from the Advanced Options tab.

The text file from the BLAST output may be parsed and viewed from within the program. The user may open BLAST output produced by DNA DABBLER or BLAST files produced from external BLAST programs.
